It’s 8PM.  You’re in bed because you’re playing in the grand final tomorrow and you want to be fresh. Fresh to death (FTD). Heck, it’s the biggest game of your athletic life!

Fast forward six hours and you guessed it, you’re still in bed; oh, and you’re still awake. Wide awake. Yes, you’re as giddy as Gordon Ramsay on his ninth coffee.  You worry and hope that this sleep deprivation won’t impair your performance tomorrow. Should you be worrying?   1. I played basketball as a teenager so I understand this all too well! I recently read an article (I’ll have to search for the source) that was studying the effects of drinking coffee immediately before any type of exercise and boosting performance. The science behind it being that caffeine opens your blood vessels which allows increased blood flow. We all know your oxygen is carried by your blood, so while your muscles are exhausted the increase in flow allows extra oxygen to be obtained.

      Yep, there’s actually multiple studies that have found caffeine pre or during exercise to decrease time to fatigue, improve ball skills and cognition due to alertness. Superb comment!


  2. If life is has no meaning there is no problem as short. If you have given it a meaning and connected to the game with your ego than yes tension will be there. To resolve it do not think the end result.
